Endodontics in Blenheim
Your teeth are strong, but they can be vulnerable to damage from cavities or injury. If the soft inner part of a tooth, called the pulp, is exposed, it can become infected. This infection can spread from the tooth to the surrounding bone and gum tissue. When this happens, a dangerous abscess can form, which can result in the tooth being lost.
How does root canal treatment work?
Root canal treatment repairs a damaged tooth so it doesn’t become infected and the tooth root can be saved. The treatment is simple: we drill the damaged tooth to access the root canal, remove the pulp and clean the area to stop infection, and seal the hole with a filling.
After root canal treatment the tooth can be restored with a dental crown.
Aren’t root canals painful?
Root canal therapy feels about the same as having a tooth filled. The treatment is done under local anesthetic and we provide sedation for anxious patients.
A severe toothache can indicate an infection. If you have a bad toothache, or if you’ve damaged a tooth, call us to book an examination.
